The easy parking and everything from small and interesting gift stores to large retail chains. In additon to this are the numerous stores situated in the trading park where you can buy everything from a washing machine, to new kitchen or re-decorate your home. There are a number of big events that take place throughout the year in Newtownabbey, but surely the most interesting and colorful is the Ballyclare May Fair. Traditionally, this was a hiring fair at which the farming community hired labourers for the summer. It was also renowned as an international horse fair where traders came from all over Europe to buy the best of Irish bloodstock, and the Tuesday of this lively and colourful May Fair still sees horses being bought and characters you don't really expect to see outside the movies, and this all adds to create the very special atmosphere of this week long festival.
